CHERRY BLOSSOM AND WILD FLOWERS

As I sit down to write this Gardener's World is on in the background.

Adam Frost is talking about a show garden at Malvern.  To paraphrase, he said that some people may see this as a bit scruffy but that he thinks this is the way gardens are going - the natural look with wild flowers among the grass.

Co-incidentally I'd chosen this as my first photo this week.  It's of an area on the edge of the woodland with bluebells, campion and avens.

Adam then went on to point out plants such as 'garlic mustard' which I have spent three days this week pulling up.  It is lovelier than stinging nettles and goose grass (which is why I had let it be) but it's now outcompeting everything else and desperate measures were needed.

I can now see the Hostas which were completely hidden before I started.

The cherry trees are the highlight of the woodland garden this week.  They like to find the sunshine and send their branches out across the lawn.

Blue and pink is a favourite combination and it also appears up in the Knot garden with Tulip Nightrider and purple iris.

The lupins are in bud and the peonies are getting ready too.  Next week it should look full of bloom.

Over in the Rose Garden the theme at the moment is black and white.  The tulips in the central bed are Queen of the Night and White Triumphator.

I think the garden has got a bit ahead of itself this year, and this rose certainly has.  Rosa 'Golden Showers' is usually the first to flower here, but that means by the beginning of June not the beginning of May!  But here is it covered in buds (and greenfly - honestly blue tits do your job!)

If you enjoyed that sunny yellow rose, you will love this Azalea luteum.  The scent is absolutely gorgeous too and fills this corner of the garden.

Believe it or not, that's your Six for this week.  If you want more garden inspiration check out our host The Propagator.  Enjoy your weekend.

  1. I should have my first yellow lupin flowers next week too. I'm always jealous when I hear comments about this TV show ( GW) because unfortunately I can't watch it here in France…
